THE GEORGIAN GROUP
10th September 2008 -- City Walk / Oxford’s Georgian interiors.
Malcolm Axtell, Chairman of Symm Group, repeats his highly successful walk from last year, offering privileged access to some of Oxford’s finest eighteenth century interiors. We hope to include on the itinerary the Great Hall and Upper Library at Christ Church, the latter considered by Colvin to be Oxford’s best Georgian interior; Queen’s College (Hall, Chapel, Library); and the Codrington at All Souls, the first Oxford library built at ground floor level. A.L. Rowse thought it ‘the summit of perfection and imagination.’ Who would disagree? Lunch (included) is in the Dining Hall at Worcester, fully restored to its original Wyatt design (from the Victorian Burges scheme) by Symm in the 1960s.
