Symm was commissioned to carry out restoration and repair work to Oxford University Press’ Grade II* listed building. This included work to B Wing, and the well known Walton Street elevation, and the Bell Tower.

Much of the repair was to the stonework, some of which had become very worn. Around eighty new modillions were delicately carved to match the originals then carefully installed in place below the heavy stone cornice.  Many other areas of worn stone mouldings were also replaced, the stonework was cleaned using specialist cleaning equipment and repointed.

Other work included repairs to the existing roof, to timber & steel windows and refurbishment of the bell tower. In addition, the clock faces were cleaned and gilded.

The project was awarded a Certificate by Oxford Preservation Trust in 2017.
