Mews Apartment
The burned out shell of this mews apartment provided a blank canvas for a complete refit. The client opted for a very modern look with accents of copper throughout. The walls to the stairway have a copper coloured silk laminated glass covering and a recessed polished copper handrail, allowing light to bounce off the surfaces to create a greater sense of light and space.
The master bathroom is a mix of Italian Blue Madagascar marble and back painted glass with a feature window reminiscent of a James Turrell installation. The guest bathroom has shattered laminated glass walls which sparkle in the light. A wine cellar built by the joiners in the heart of the flat has storage for 1500 bottles and is carefully monitored for temperature and humidity; copper mesh inlaid into the glass shelves is illuminated by LED lights. The sitting room on the top of the building has a frosted glass lantern which is naturally lit and in the evenings glows with a series of cold cathode lights, lifting the ceiling and creating a sense of height and drama. You are drawn from this room onto the terrace where Iroko wall cladding conceals the plant room and air conditioning equipment and a black bamboo wall shimmers and rustles in the wind providing a perfect retreat from the bustle of Knightsbridge.
The joinery is selected smoked oak veneers in with a matt finish and exacting polished copper trims. Surfaces are clean and uncluttered, with shadow gaps demanding a high quality finish throughout.
