For almost 200 years craftsmen at Symm have been constructing and maintaining colleges and historic buildings within the world famous Oxford University.

Symm has two joinery workshops; one in Oxford, the other in Pershore, Worcestershire, which specialise in the finest traditional and contemporary joinery and cabinetry. Both offer a complete CAD drawing service and with teams of experienced wood machinists, joiners and polishers, ensuring that no task is too difficult.

Although Symm’s apprentice trained craftsmen are skilled mainly in the traditional crafts, the company has also invested in state-of-the-art equipment for manufacturing, veneering and polishing.

Symm’s experience includes creating freestanding and fitted furniture, libraries, panelling and staircases for private residences, luxury yachts, commercial and government buildings.

Symm provides a complete decorating and finishing service for contemporary and traditional projects.

The company’s large team of skilled painters and decorators has a vast knowledge of both historical and modern finishes; skills that have evolved over two centuries of embellishing some of Britain’s most important listed buildings and monuments.

We offer a full range of decorating and finishing services including paper, silk and fabric hanging, specialist paint and wood finishing techniques as well as trompe l’oeil and heraldic gilding.  We can also skilfully and professionally prepare surfaces ready for specialist finishes by others.

APS Masonry has had a constant presence in Oxford for 200 years and the APS team at Symm continues to design, manufacture and fix finished natural stonemasonry for private and commercial clients in both the UK and USA.

With 30 years experience in the industry, Angus Gibson and his team provide a unique service from initial advice to developing a whole house design.  Often  working with lighting designers, architects, interior designers and specialised consultants from the industry, Symm has adopted new approaches to home technology and audio visual.

It is Symm’s aim to make the systems more accessible, less complicated to use, stylish and, above all, well engineered to fit in with the overall scheme. Being part of a larger group Symm has the advantage over stand-alone AV installers of being able to draw on in house resources for drawing, joinery, building, decoration and site management.
